More Cheap Hosting Provider Problems

Since our post last week about GoDaddy having issues, more cheap hosting providers have been having problems! Bluehost, Dreamhost, HostGator, OVH, or iPage services were found to be insecure. These popular and cheap website hosting sites are vulnerable to simple account takeover hacks.

Clicking a link is all that was needed for someone to gain full access to your hosting account if you were using one of their hosting packages. The full and very technical write up is available here if you’re interested in the details, or a more readable summary of the situation here.

The vendors you choose have a big impact on the service you receive. While many “hosting” services are available, the quality varies greatly. This is just another example of why we don’t – and never will – use cheap website hosting services.
